A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words There are many ways you could show your players how to do something. You can explain it to them over and over. You can demonstrate the technique to them. You can have them perform the technique and correct any mistakes. However, once they leave practice how can you make sure that the player remembers how to perform the technique fundamentally correct? A great way to remind players is through pictures. Look through magazines or on the internet for pictures of professional athletes demonstrating great technique. The pictures should be very easy to find. Make copies of these pictures and hand them out to your team. Explain what the player in the photo is doing correctly. "Notice how Derek Jeter stays low when he's fielding a ground ball." "See how Tim Duncan boxes out for the rebound." Since these are pictures of their heroes, your players will pay closer attention to the technique's demonstrated in the photos. Handing out pictures is an effective and fun way to "show" your team the proper fundamentals. Try it at your next practice. www.CoachYouthSports.com
